But just incase you were unaware of the above I just wanted to share my thoughts with you. However if you personally for sentimental reasons would rather do that. Only a thought! To me the money you would spend having it re-chambered and altered would purchase a decent hunting rifle in a common caliber. Re-Chambering it will ruin the value and certainly the collectability. As you mentioned it is somewhat of a collectors piece. The reason for all this is in my opinion your rifle is probably worth about $500-600 in excellent condition as a collectable. Shame on me! I regret it immensely today! Thinking of all the history, value and originality I destroyed. I use to buy 98 Mausers and other Mausers for around $35.00-$50.00 and sporterize, drill and tap them, bend the bolt handle for a scope and sell them for $125.00. I have been guilty of that in the past when I was young and working at a neighbors gun shop learning the skills. I hate to see the originality of the great military rifles destroyed.
